    At Spa Planet we respect Ukrainian traditions and cultural heritage, we are trying to accumulate in our product all the Ukrainian traditions related to sauna culture.

    We offer you a sauna which is approved over many years and equipped with the most modern technologies. Every detail matters here. The wood that is used for the construction of the sauna (a linden log), an oven that allows you to get heated steam, aromatization with inhalation, as well as wide, massive benches that emphasizes the originality of the real Cossacks bathing culture.

    But first, let’s discover the history of the Ukrainian sauna. Bathing traditions of Ukraine are rooted in the Neolithic Trypolian culture. At this time, mud huts were replaced by mudbrick houses. Trypolian people have had a developed culture of bathing. During the archaeological excavations, unique saunas were found. They consisted of several rooms for various procedures: a steaming room, a room for washing with warm and cold water, and a space for relaxation with tea made from healing herbs.

    From the Scythians, the Ukrainians got «bath yurts», which were described even by Herodotus. He admired their healing and toning effect. Their construction was based on a frame with a felt stretched over it. In the middle of the room, there was a vat with water, which was heated with fire rocks. In the yurt, there were also hot stones with aromatic plants placed on them. The body was rubbed with steamed leaves, and then it was cleansed with water.

    After the collapse of Kievan Rus, the steppe zone of the Black Sea region became a «wild field» for 400 years: it was impossible to settle there due to constant raids. Then Cossacks and «free people» started to settle these lands, although life here was peculiar – settled and nomadic. Hence, washing was absolutely necessary part of their life, so the Cossacks used camping saunas similar to the Scythian felt saunas.

    There was a small corner behind the stove that was intended for the washing room. The stove had dampers on the side of the steam room and on the side of the kitchen. The floor was made with a slope, therefore water could drain towards the outer wall. In the corner, there was a large barrel for cold water, which was poured on stones. It was also used for pouring cold water from wooden buckets, called tsebarky. It was possible to plunge fully into the barrel.

    Along the walls, there were several benches, placed on different levels. Another feature of this sauna was using of brooms. Manufacture of brooms was a whole ritual: branches for it should have been cut during church holidays and the prayer should have been read out. The brooms should have been dried only in the shade.

    The Cossacks were great masters of bath works. It was necessary for them to visit the sauna before and after the hikes: bathing helped them to rest and to regain strength. At the same time, their healers treated wounds and injuries with the help of steam.

    You can order a turnkey sauna of any size and design at an affordable price, including the following configurations:

    • 5 on 4 turnkey saunas;
    • 6 on 6 turnkey saunas;
    • 6 on 8 turnkey saunas.

    Small saunas, saunas for the backyard or for the house – regardless of the complexity of the project, we will offer you a solution. The average time we need to build a steam room is 15-20 days, the construction of a turnkey wooden bath usually takes 1-2 months.

    What to choose – a Ukrainian sauna or a Finnish sauna, and what is the difference between them? Almost everyone who wants to become the owner of a private place of relaxation deals with these issues.

    The main difference is the temperature. Finnish sauna has the dry type of steam, the temperature of it reaches 90-120ºC and even higher, while the humidity is quite low – 10-15%.

    In a classic Ukrainian sauna, the temperature is lower – 50-70ºC, but the humidity ranges from 40-60%. These are closer to the natural conditions for the human body, so this mode is considered more comfortable for humans. There is also a version of the hot Ukrainian sauna: the temperature in it reaches 75-90ºC, and the humidity – 20-35%.

    As you can see, a Ukrainian sauna has a milder and more natural effect on the human body. You can stay there longer – up to 20 minutes, then take a break for about 8-10 minutes and repeat. In the Finnish sauna, you should initially spend 5-10 minutes, and then gradually increase the time.

    Another fundamental difference between the Ukrainian sauna and the Finnish sauna is the tradition of steaming. A broom is traditionally used in the Ukrainian sauna. The most popular option are birch, oak, or eucalyptus broom. Thanks to him, the ritual of taking a Ukrainian sauna becomes even more perfect – massage and aromatherapy improve well-being and make sauna rituals even more useful.

    There are no brooms in the Finnish sauna and all you need to do is take a comfortable position, relax and have fun. Thus, the Ukrainian sauna is more about active rest, and the Finnish sauna is just for relaxation.

    The third difference is the design of the furnace and the location of the stones. The temperature in the room depends on it. In the Finnish sauna, the stones for the stove are placed outside, and in the Ukrainian sauna, they are placed directly on the stove. Electric stoves are often used instead of wood stoves in saunas. They generate light steam and allow you to control the temperature precisely.

    The peculiarity of the Ukrainian sauna is that its main part is in the vestibule and is connected with the steam room only by one wall. Due to this, the air in the Ukrainian sauna isn’t too hot but gives a feeling of pleasant warmth. When the temperature drops, hot water should be poured on the stones again. This humidity creates a microclimate similar to the natural environment.

    The Finnish saunas have the opposite principle of action: since the temperature in it reaches 100° C, the air must be dry, because at high humidity this temperature can leave burns. Dry air creates an optimal microclimate.

    Turnkey sauna construction is our specialty, so don’t hesitate to contact Spa Planet with this task. We are experts in our field and we will help you at all stages – from the idea to its successful implementation.

    Wild baths and saunas are made of handmade wood. The material used to decorate the turnkey wooden bath is linden, processed by hand. Linden is also used to decorate turnkey saunas. Thanks to our technology we create unique handwork. This wood looks unusual, effectively retains heat, and is very pleasant to the touch. That’s why we chose this material for the decoration of the walls inside the baths. The logs retain a useful, rich in linden essential oils bark.

    Wild linden wood contains many essential oils. The pleasant honey aroma of the wood is extremely strong and lasts a long time after construction. The unusual appearance of the linden bath and the special atmosphere allow you to feel relaxed, get a natural healing effect, recover quickly and forget about all worries.

    The increased content of phytoncides in wildwood brings additional health benefits:

    • Heals the respiratory system
    • Helps to cure colds
    • Calms the nervous system
    • Increases immunity and tones the body

    Treated wood manually retains its protective layer, lasts longer and does not lose its original appearance, cracks less and changes color.

    The final cost of a turnkey sauna depends on a number of factors, including the material used for decoration, design, size, and lighting. Also, the price of the project depends on the equipment, the type of furnace, and the availability of additional spa elements. The cost of each project is individual.
